  • What is Freemasonry?

Ask the average man and you will receive replies as varied as it is possible to be. It might be interesting to review the Grand Lodge of Ohio's Mission Statement:

"Freemasonry provides opportunities for sincere, honest, forthright men who believe in God and desire to contribute to the improvement of their communities and themselves.

Through our Masonic Fraternalism, we reaffirm our dedication and unity to become involved citizens who have a strong desire to preserve the values that have made and continue to make America great."

    Who may join?

Any man who is nineteen years of age or older and of good moral character, who has resided in Ohio for at least one year, and who comes well recommended and who believes in a Supreme Being may petition to become a Freemason in Ohio.

Is there a religious or political requirement? Your religious or political belief will prove no bar to your entrance into Freemasonry.  There is nothing in Masonry to keep any honest and patriotic individual from entering our portals.  There is one exception--no atheist may be admitted. Our fraternity believes in the existence of God.  It necessarily follows that one who had no such belief would not fit into the Masonic structure.
