The Second Masonic District

Second to None

From the District Deputy Grand Masters

My dear Brethren,

As each of us return to our labors at lodge, the lodges in the Second Masonic District remain active in the Craft. Our 28 lodges are hard at work, diligent in their duties to the brethren in making Masons and in renewing their commitment to the Craft.

Now more than ever, the world needs Freemasonry. We need men who will keep their word, display integrity and promote brotherly love and harmony even under the most difficult circumstances. And most importantly, men who practice Masonry not only in a lodge room, but out in the world. All Masonry is local Masonry and there’s no better place to see that than within our beloved Second District.

We are excited about what this year will hold for the lodges of our District, and we sincerely hope you will take part in all the events that are planned.  From picnics to bowling to movie nights, there are plenty of opportunities for fellowship and brotherhood. Check out the district calendar at https://www.secondmasonicdistrict.org/calendar-of-events/ and bring a friend or brother along with you on your travels.

MWB Shawn Johnson’s theme this year is Committed to the Craft. Whether it’s perfecting ritual in degree work, helping a brother in need with some house work or charity or showing up as a lodge to help with community service or participating in a parade, commitment is key to Masonry. It extends beyond the lodge room and shows in how you live your Masonry.

The Grand Master’s Award rubric is posted on Grand View, and your lodge is eligible to begin earning points toward the award. While challenging, setting a good plan by each lodge can make the award attainable. If you have any questions about how to earn the award, or if a certain event you are hosting or attending will count, contact your DDGM.

The Second Masonic District is also offering additional district awards to award lodges that learn the most new lectures/charges, attend DEO nights, host most raisings, attain most Zerubbabel awards and of course, the Smalley award, the district Mason of the year. These awards reward the hard work that lodges  in the Second District are already doing and promote some friendly competition for the lodges to continue to perform and step up.

Most importantly, we look forward to working with each of your lodges to help each excel. Call the brother who has been away from lodge for a while and pick him up and bring him with you to lodge. Plan that event and have a family and friends night at lodge. Keep your sacred flame lit and use it to help ignite it in another brother as you continue your commitment to the Craft.

Fraternally,

Alf Butler, Shannon Ballard, Greg Bush
